Prevalence Hantaan Viruses in Street Cats(Felis cattus) in Korea

Abstract
This study is a seroepidemiological research about cats, which possess Hantaan virus, to find out if they (Felis cattus) can infect human with these viruses either directly or indirectly.
The aim of this study is to find out whether or not the cat has Hantaan virus and to consider the precautionary measures by demonstrating the antibodies in serum.
From January to July, 1993, 162 serum were obtained from the blood of the cats which were captured from the middle part of Korea (Seongnam;47, Suwon: 41, Onyang; 27, Yesan: 47).The presence of the antibody to Hantaan virus was examined by IFA.
@ES This experimental results are as follows:
@EN Among 162 cats tested, 18 cats(11.1%) were positive to Hantaan virus Ab. Against Hantaan virus Ab, 13 cats(27.7%) among 47 cats captured in Seongnam, 3 cats (7.3%) among 41 cats captured in Suwon and 2 cats(7.4%) among 27 cats captured in
Onyang are
positive.
Putting these various results together, Felis cattus as a per in Korean, was very important to Hantaan viruses because it had a same regimen and residential area with man. It was demonstrated that the infected cats had the antibody of Hantaan
virus.
It was also possible that cats had the possibility to infect man with the Hantaan viruses but I think there needs more precise experimental research about this.
